SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE ITA

In late March, global computer models began hinting at a Tropical LOW developing in the Solomon Sea or Gulf Of Papua. On April 1, we issued our first alert on this coming system in our video update as the cyclonic signals on model guidance were getting stronger and stronger. Initially the model guidance had this next Tropical Cyclone moving west across the top of Australia and making landfall in the Pilbara however with progressive model runs this became less and less likely. A strike on the Peninsula coast and then a track into the Gulf was forecast on April 6.
On April 7, OCC decided to get ready for a road chase to the Peninsula between Coen and Cooktown. We got the electrics box together full of web cams, tablets and all sorts of goodies, we organised a flight for Mick K to join Trav and me
