G'day folks the day has arrived. The new Oz Cyclone Chasers Weather Centre Version 2 has been released. Become your own weather forecaster with the Oz Cyclone Chasers Weather Centre Version 2.0. This is a great little intro video to the capabili...
We have been very fortunate that Matthew's strongest winds have remained a short distance offshore of the Florida Coast thus far, but this should not be a reason for people to be complacent. Only a small deviation to the left of the forecast track could bring these winds onshore. The western eyewall of Matthew, which contains hurricane-force winds, is expected to move over or very near the coast of northeastern Florida and Georgia through tonight. Matthew has begun to move northward at about 1...
The WA region has begun what is likely to be a pretty active 2016/2017 cyclone season. Last week we saw an out of season Tropical LOW near Christmas Island push moisture right across Australia and feed that moisture into a strong Southern Australian Polar LOW. Next week we see a second Tropical LOW form near Indonesia on Tuesday that is then expected to enter the Western Australian Area Of Responsibility on Wednesday or Thursday. This second LOW is likely to get a little stronger ...
A great weekend weather wise is coming up, but for those who want to look forward further ahead, the future is bright (or stormy) as we head to Thursday. Early indications are that a surface trough will form just inland of the East coast of Queensland on Wednesday. This trough will be fed by moist easterly winds coming in from the Coral Sea on Thursday. While storms are likely to be scattered, it is always a case of hit and miss when it comes to storm rainfalls. More details next wee...
Well folks after a week of model watching, Hurricane Matthew is poised to impact the Florida coastline. The first in 11 years....... Its mind boggling to think that a whole continent has not seen a Major Hurricane landfall for that long. Back in 2005 we hardly had video phones, Youtube had just been released. You can see the significance that this storm poses to the United States when you think about it like that..... Hurricane Matthews core is currently just South West of Grand Bahama an...
I've been looking through some weather data this evening trying to catch up with what has been going on weather wise over the past 24-36 hours thinking that all was dull and boring across the north. So imagine my surprise when I checked the rain maps for the states this afternoon and this whopping rain total of 121mm popped up in Mossman. Initially I thought it was a mistake until I checked back through radar archives. It's no mistake. Turns out a trough system created a slow mov...
A strong surface and upper trough is moving across the state and will create widespread light rain areas across the state along with strong gusty thunderstorms this afternoon/evening near the coast between Cardwell and Rockhampton. Storms are also likely outside of those areas but computer models estimate that the strongest of the activity will be located along that stretch of coastline and adjacent inland areas. Strong winds aloft and ample environmental moisture and energy will mean that ...
The last of a series of trough systems is set to push through Queensland tomorrow. The system will create widespread patchy rain, showers and isolated thunderstorms for most of the southern 2/3rds of Queensland south of about Ingham on Monday. It is already doing this for Western Queensland today. Subscribers, please find today's weather videos here To become an OCC subscriber, please head to www.ozcyclonechasers.com.au/subscribe Overall rain amounts aren't going to be very high, but it w...
A sneaky little trough system has formed around the North Tropical Coast forecast district just inland of the ranges. This sneaky little trough will create cloudy and showery conditions with the outside chance of a storm as well through today. It's a welcome surprise to wake up to after the expectation was that the region would 'fine up' after last night's awesome storm which hit Cairns and surrounding areas. A far more significant trough system will sweep through the state on Monday and br...
